What to Expect

When you contact CA Lumber Recycling, you will hear back from a real member of our team — not an automated system. Whether you are looking to buy reclaimed lumber, sell surplus wood, schedule a pickup, or just have a question about lumber grades and species, we are happy to help.

Tip: For the fastest quote, include details about the type, quantity, and dimensions of lumber you need. Photos of your project or existing material are always welcome.

Getting Here

We are located in Carpinteria, California, a coastal city between Santa Barbara and Ventura along the 101 freeway. Our facility is easily accessible for commercial and residential customers throughout Southern California and beyond.

  • From US-101: Take the Carpinteria exit and follow signs toward Rose Ln.
  • Look for the CA Lumber Recycling sign at the entrance to our lumber yard.
  • Large vehicle and trailer access is available — our lot accommodates flatbeds and box trucks.

Visiting Our Yard

CA Lumber Recycling welcomes walk-in customers, contractors, designers, and curious visitors who want to see our reclaimed material in person. Photos and dimensions only tell part of the story — touching the wood, seeing the grain, and matching colors to samples is the best way to make confident selections for your project.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

When you arrive at 6382 Rose Ln, follow signs to the main yard office. A team member will greet you, ask about your project, and walk you through the relevant sections of our inventory. We typically allow 30 to 60 minutes for a first-time browse, longer if you are sourcing material for a large project. There is no obligation to buy on your first visit — many customers come back two or three times before placing an order.

1. Check In at the Office

The yard office is the small building near the entrance. Please check in before walking the yard so we can pair you with the right team member and ensure your visit is safe and productive.

2. Discuss Your Project

Share what you are building, the species and dimensions you need, your budget, and your timeline. Bringing photos, sketches, or sample boards from existing materials is enormously helpful.

3. Walk the Inventory

A team member will guide you through the relevant stacks, point out featured pieces, and answer questions about provenance, milling options, and pricing.

4. Set Aside Selections

We will tag pieces you are interested in. You can come back the same day or arrange to return within a reasonable time frame to finalize and pick up your order.

5. Quote and Invoice

We provide a written quote that includes board feet, species, grade, and any custom milling fees. You can review at your leisure and confirm by phone or email.

6. Pickup or Delivery

Same-day pickup is available for small orders. Larger loads can be delivered locally or arranged for freight pickup. We help load your vehicle safely and securely.

What to Bring When You Visit

A productive visit starts with good preparation. The more information and tools you bring, the faster we can find exactly what you need. None of these items are required — we can help you regardless — but they speed up the process.

Parking, Access & Vehicle Information

Our yard at 6382 Rose Ln in Carpinteria is designed to accommodate everything from passenger cars to commercial flatbeds. The site has ample parking, wide drive aisles, and clear loading zones for both pickup and delivery vehicles.

Passenger Vehicles

Park in the designated visitor area near the office building. Most cars and SUVs fit easily. The lot is gravel, so high-clearance is helpful but not required for standard sedans.

Pickup Trucks

Drive directly to the loading area after checking in at the office. We can load lumber up to 16 feet long into most full-size beds. Longer material may require a flag on the overhang.

Trailers & Flatbeds

Trailers up to 32 feet can be accommodated. Our drive aisles allow turning room for most rigs. For very long flatbeds, please call ahead so we can clear the loading approach.

Box Trucks & Larger

Box trucks up to 26 feet are easily accommodated. Larger commercial vehicles should call ahead to confirm clearance and loading zone availability.

Loading help: Our yard staff helps load all purchases. For heavy timbers, beams, or large quantities, please plan extra time and bring at least one additional person if your vehicle requires manual lifting.

Accessibility

We are committed to making CA Lumber Recycling welcoming and accessible to all visitors. Our office building is single-story and ground-level. The yard is gravel surface, which can present challenges for wheelchairs and walkers in some areas. If you have mobility considerations, please contact us before your visit so we can make appropriate arrangements.

Mobility Assistance

Our team is happy to bring sample boards, photos, and small pieces to the office for review if walking the yard is difficult. We can also provide curbside or contactless pickup for customers who prefer it.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome throughout our facility. Please be aware that the yard has uneven surfaces, occasional vehicle traffic, and stacks of lumber that may present obstacles.

Visual Materials

We can provide detailed verbal descriptions of grain, color, and condition. Photos and high-resolution images of inventory are available by email on request for any customers who would benefit from advance review.

Quiet Hours

If yard noise is a concern, the quietest time to visit is mid-morning on weekdays between 9:30 and 11:00 AM. Saturdays tend to be busier and louder. Let us know in advance and we can plan a calmer experience.

By-Appointment Services

While our yard is open during regular business hours for general browsing, several services are available by appointment only. Scheduling ensures you have dedicated time with the right team member and that any special preparation is complete before you arrive.

Custom Milling Consultations

If your project requires custom milling — re-sawing reclaimed timbers into boards, making custom flooring profiles, or producing matched trim — schedule a consultation with our milling team. We will discuss specifications, review reference samples, and provide a detailed quote.

Salvage Site Visits

We will visit your demolition site to evaluate reclaimable lumber. Common sites include old barns, warehouses, mill buildings, and historic homes. Please call to schedule and provide as much information about the structure as possible.

Designer & Trade Walkthroughs

Architects, interior designers, and contractors are welcome to schedule extended walkthroughs to view inventory in depth, learn about new arrivals, and discuss specification options for ongoing projects.

Educational Tours

Schools, sustainability groups, and trade education programs can arrange tours of our facility to learn about lumber recycling, salvage processes, and sustainable building materials. Tours typically last 45 to 60 minutes.

Large Project Sourcing

For projects requiring more than 5,000 board feet, our team can dedicate a salesperson to source matching material across our entire inventory and supplier network. Please schedule at least one week in advance.

Photo & Film Locations

Our yard has been used as a backdrop for product photography and film projects. Location use requires advance scheduling and a brief production agreement covering safety and access.

Health & Safety Policies

CA Lumber Recycling maintains common-sense health and safety practices for the benefit of customers, staff, and the community. The following guidelines apply to all visitors.

Yard Safety

Closed-toe shoes are recommended for everyone walking the yard. Please be aware of forklifts, vehicles, and lumber stacks. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We will provide eye protection on request.

Illness & Air Quality

If you are feeling unwell, we are happy to reschedule. During wildfire smoke events, we may modify operations to protect outdoor workers. Most of our facility is outdoors with excellent air circulation.

Mask Friendly

We respect personal choice on face coverings. Customers who prefer to wear masks are welcome and will be accommodated by staff who can mask up on request. There is no judgment either way.

Lead & Old Paint

Some reclaimed material may have been painted with lead-based paint before 1978. We label material with original paint and recommend appropriate handling for sanding or refinishing. Ask staff for guidance on individual pieces.

Allergen Notice

Wood dust is a known respiratory irritant. Some species (Western Red Cedar, Walnut) cause specific allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. We ventilate all enclosed workspaces and offer dust masks on request.

Insurance & Liability

Visitors enter the yard at their own risk. We carry general liability insurance for our operations. Please follow all posted signs and staff instructions during your visit.

Language Support

CA Lumber Recycling serves a diverse community and works hard to communicate clearly with all customers regardless of their primary language. Several members of our team speak languages other than English, and we have additional support available when needed.

English

All staff communicate fluently in English. Written quotes, invoices, and product documentation are produced in English by default.

Spanish / Español

Several team members speak Spanish fluently and can help with quotes, technical discussions, and yard tours. Please ask for Spanish support when you call or visit.

Translation Services

For other languages, we are happy to schedule a visit when a multilingual team member is available, or to communicate through written translation tools. Bring a translator if you prefer.

Common Questions About Reaching Us

How fast do you respond to email?

We respond to all email inquiries within one business day, usually within a few hours during business hours. Detailed quotes for large or custom projects may take 24 to 48 hours to prepare.

Can I just drop by, or do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome during business hours. Appointments are only required for custom milling consultations, salvage site visits, large project sourcing, and educational tours.

What information should I include when emailing?

Include the species and grade you are looking for, approximate quantity, dimensions, intended use, your timeline, and your location for delivery purposes. Photos help enormously.

Do you accept text messages?

Email is the most reliable way to reach our team and ensures your inquiry is routed to the right person. We do not currently support SMS for customer service, but our team responds to email very quickly.

Can I get a quote without visiting?

Yes. Send a clear list of what you need by email. We can provide written quotes for standard inventory immediately and for custom milling within 1 to 2 business days. Photos of selected pieces can be sent on request.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards. Larger commercial orders can be invoiced with net-30 terms after credit approval. ACH bank transfers are available for ongoing trade accounts.

Do you ship outside California?

Yes. We arrange freight delivery throughout the continental United States and occasionally internationally. Shipping costs depend on weight, dimensions, and destination — we will provide a delivered price quote on request.

Is your inventory available online?

Our website lists product categories and general availability. Because reclaimed lumber is one-of-a-kind, exact pieces are best viewed in person or through photos we send via email after discussing your project.
